Alias is an ingredient and label scanner for iPhone and iPad. This page explains, in plain language, what the app keeps on your device, what leaves it, and who else is involved.
The short version:
Alias is published by Massive Dynamics Canada LTD., a company incorporated in Canada (Corporations Canada #15077729), of 20 Mahogany Mews Southeast, Suite 106, Calgary, AB T3M 2W8.

Everything Alias is for happens on your phone.
Your list. The ingredients, names and ingredient groups you add are stored in the app's own storage on this device. They are not uploaded, not synced and not backed up by us.
Your photos and the label text. When you photograph a label, import a photo, or paste text, the text is read with Apple's Vision framework on the device. Alias does not upload the image or the recognised text anywhere, and it does not keep your scans: a scan result lives in memory while you look at it and is gone when you leave the screen.
Matching. Alias finds the words on your list with a dictionary that ships inside the app. Matching happens on the device. It works offline and no request is made to check a label.
Small settings. Whether you accepted the notice, whether you have seen the upgrade screen, and your language choice are stored on the device.
Nothing is sent to us. We operate no server that receives your list, your photos, your scans or your results. There is no cloud AI in Alias.
Alias has an optional Premium subscription. If you buy one, two things happen off the device.
Apple takes the payment. The purchase is handled by the App Store. We never see your card details or your Apple ID password. Apple tells us, through RevenueCat, whether a subscription is active.
RevenueCat tracks subscription status. RevenueCat receives a random, app-generated identifier for this installation, the App Store transaction information for the purchase, and basic device and app information (device model, iOS version, app version). It uses these to keep track of whether Premium should be unlocked, including after you restore purchases on a new device.
That identifier is not linked to your identity — it is not your name, email address, Apple ID or advertising identifier — and it is not used for tracking you across other apps or websites. RevenueCat does not receive your ingredient list, your photos, your scans or your results, because the app never sends them.
If you never buy a subscription, RevenueCat is never contacted.
There is nothing for us to delete, because we hold nothing: your list and settings exist only on your device.
To erase everything Alias has stored on the device, open Settings → Delete all data in the app. That removes your list and the notice acceptance from this device. You can also delete the app, which removes all of it.
If you have a subscription, it belongs to your Apple ID and is managed by Apple. Cancel it in the App Store app: tap your profile picture, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
To ask us to help with an erasure request, write to info@massivedynamicscanada.com.
We keep nothing, because nothing is sent to us. On the device, your list and settings stay until you delete them in the app or delete the app.
RevenueCat keeps subscription records for as long as needed to provide and account for the subscription, under its own retention policy.
Alias is rated 4+, suitable for all ages, and is not directed at children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — the app has no account and no way to submit information to us. The only data that can leave the device is subscription status, and that requires an adult with an App Store payment method.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, delete, or get a copy of the information held about you, and to object to some uses of it.
In Alias there is no personal information held by us to retrieve: your list is on your device and we cannot read it.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, Massive Dynamics Canada LTD. is the controller for the purposes of the GDPR / UK GDPR. We rely on performance of a contract to provide a subscription you buy, and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the app. No special-category data is processed. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are in California, this is our CCPA/CPRA notice: we do not sell or share your personal information, and have not done so in the past 12 months.
Wherever you are, write to info@massivedynamicscanada.com and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
If Alias starts collecting something new, sending something somewhere new, or using a new provider, this page will be updated before that version reaches the App Store, and the date at the top changed with it.
